Butterfly Doors (Haiku!)

To start my final week with the 4th graders at Dulles, I thought we would try our hand at some Haiku. We read translations of Issa Kobayashi and discussed how Haiku are based on observations that lead us to have a discovery, and that they are short and to the point. I provided some photos for them to analyze, and they wrote some Haiku of their own!

The white and blue car Michael

I see blue and white colors
I see butterfly doors
It is kind of shaped like butterfly wings

The staring llama E'Moni

Look at that llama looking at me
and it is eating hay while staring at me
the eyes are so far apart
and llamas are so big and it is gray and brown.

The bridge looks like a rollercoaster without the cart ride
The man looks like he is on a cliff and about to fall
The llama looks like the tongue is out while chewing its food.
