Bookmarked Memories

This past Friday was Shoesmith’s 5th and 6th graders 8th session and last day of poetry. I decided for our last day to have a poetry art project and brought each class blank bookmarks, markers, and colorful tassels. Students decorated their bookmarks by choosing their favorite lines from the poems they wrote from our residency. There were also poetry performances, where students shared poems using my blue microphone and speaker.

Below is the wonderful artwork by students and some of my favorite student poems our residencey. I want to say a special thanks to Ms. Hassberger and 5th graders for the beautiful cards. Congrats 🎉 to 6th graders as they make the big journey to 7th grade. Also, a sweet goodbye to Ms. Henry who will be leaving Shoesmith and going on her next adventure.

Poetry snaps and hugs to everyone and I hope you have a wonderful summer break.

Dear Air By Xavier.

You keep all living things alive.
You are the element that helps us thrive.
You blow our tears away when we cry.
You bright up my day, like the 4th of July.
While I’m out in the sun, you keep me cool.
Like a burning fire in a cold pool.
Your breezes are very relaxing,
like eating yummy food after fasting.
Sometimes your wind is blasting.
But that’s ok, my love for you is everlasting.
No matter how you change, you will
always be a friend.
Don’t give up on us, your legacy change,
will never end.

So keep changing the world my friend.

Best Device Eva! By Alaya W.

My computer, my computer!
A letter to my computer!

My computer is the best!
I always treat it with care.
Not everyone would, although
they would treat you with despair.
But what’s the best device?
My computer, My computer!

But wait—
Hold on–
HACKING TO THE MAINFRAME …
Ow! what just happened?
Woah- anyways,
Good thing my computer ain’t binary.
Or I would say…
100010110111001
Just one question.
What’s the best device ever?

My computer, My Computer!
