“Bones like stone/ Veins like vines”

This week Swift 2nd and 3rd graders listed things that are inside of us:  hearts, brains, lungs, proudness, infinite energy, anger,  fluids, bones, blood, muscles, kindness, curiosity, love, and more!  We thought of things humans have in common with animals, the seasons, and nature.  And we talked about using repetition to create, pattern, rhythm, and underline ideas.  After reading and discussing the poem “It’s Inside of Me!” by Adam Delavan, students began to write their own poems.

Ms. Liz 2nd Grade

Carolyn

I have a heart like love
I have a brain like mountains
Bones like stone
Veins like vines
Blood like juice
Blood cells like cages
a skull like a puzzle

This is me Abhignaa

the movement of rabbits
is in my fingers like writing,
drawing and coloring.

my legs are like a
caterpillar walking
through a garden.

My brain is calm like
calm water waves.

Bastav

Blood is red giving  your
organs stuff it needs

like your parents giving
you a life

Everything in me Lina

appreciation is in me
nature is in me
water is all around me
school is in me
a tickle is in my finger

Anjila

Rocks are hard like
bones and
metal

A board is hard
like my teeth

A bunny is soft
just like my
skin

Ms. Brist 2nd Grade

Aydin B.

The joy of the sun is inside
of me
The brightness of red is inside
of me
The creativity of art is inside
of me

Ms. Reed 3rd Grade

Inside of Us Yanika, Hezekiah, Zila, She'Ana, Daniel, and Shreya

Inside of us are questions
about who named us

Inside is blood
flowing like anger coming and going
or like water flowing through our fingers
to the lake
and love flowing
in our hearts

A brain inside of us
thinks magical thoughts

Sometimes inside of us
is the laziness of sloths

Mr. Ciccone 3rd Grade

Poetry Party

we would like to invite you
to a poetry party

we will be eating stanza burgers
and rhyme fries

we will be dancing to sensory word
music
moving our arms and feet
like champion swimmers
in a pool full of lemonade

to celebrate National Poetry Month!

Alliteration

flowing
flying
like fireflies
inside of us
are feelings,
fear, family, and
fire.
