As Simple as a Simile

The most used literary device in literature are metaphors. Similes are metaphors that specifically use the words “like” or “as”. After reading “Dreams” and “A Dream Deferred” by Langston Hughes, the poets learned about similes and metaphors featured in both of the poems. In pairs, they then wrote their similes based on someone, or something, they love in their life. Enjoy!

Family by Elijah and Max

Strong like an avalanche
Kind as a bear
Lovely as flowers
Friendly like a neighbor

She by Ethan and Johnny

She is funny as Pete Davidson
She’s lovely as a chicken
She’s lonely like a bird
She’s quiet as a mouse
She’s pretty as a star
Her smile is as bright as the light

Alice by Ariel

Moves like a feather
Heart warm as summer weather
Hair soft like fluff
Like a gentle breeze
My sister is like a mother
