Around the Table: “You give me comfort…”

This week we read Perhaps the World Ends Here by Joy Harjo and discussed all of the different things that can happen around a kitchen or lunch table. Food, drama, games, gossip, a table is more than a place to set things on. It can be the place where our worlds converge. Enjoy this week’s poets!

The Food We Ate Talia K.

The Chaos table
where we eat, laugh, drink, and smile
only lasts for a very short while.
Where we play and catch up on our day,
in our own special little way
We, play, talk, we love, we hate
right after the food we ate.

More Than A Kitchen, More Than A Table Tamarya Cartman

Kitchen table, how you
save my day when I want
to relax and chill. You give
me comfort to to talk to my
friends and even when I’m
eating. You make my
food even better when I
sit it down.

You bring laughter when
I talk to my friends and
You bring love when I talk
to my loved ones.

I don’t know what I would
do without using the
kitchen
You are more than
a kitchen table.
