Are You Afraid of Monsters?

As distance learning continues, 2nd graders at Swift have been thinking about things they are afraid of and whether or not they believe in monsters. We showed off monster faces in our device cameras, and then read Dennis Lee’s poem “I Eat Kids – YUM YUM!” before creating our own unique monsters!

My happy monster is kind to kids and all the people.
My happy monster gives out ice cream to kids.

My happy monster fights bad monsters to make them happy.

My happy monster helps kids to be good at school.
My happy monster makes cake for me.
My happy monster helps me do homework.

Mr. Slimy Ice Cream looks
Scary and has a big large
Body. He smells
Like cheese in an old pot.
He can shapeshift into a toy.
He says “haha you can’t climb a tree”
With its deep dark voice.
It plays with me.
He only eats balls
With a squishy filling.
He hates when
People say
“I am cream
Blah blah blah.”
He comes into the
Sofa at 4:00 am.
He lives under
The bed.
His power
Is to heal people.

I have a monster.
She sleeps in my mom’s closet.
She smells like fresh grass.
She looks like a fluffy teddy bear.
She is friendly.
She is fun.
She looks cute too.
She can time travel.
I can come with her to the cute monster world.
The cute monster world has cute monsters.
They eat fruits, not kids.
They talk like humans but sound like cute babies.

People were scared of him
They ran away when they saw him
