8th Grade- Personification Pt. 2

Last week we got started on poems using personification as a device to approach larger than life ideas. Sometimes, one session just isn’t enough time to create a masterpiece so we continued working on them this week. These poems are about all kinds of mysterious things. From the evolution of the world, to what makes a closet feel lonely. Enjoy this week’s poets!

8th Grade

The Closet E'lyan J.

It’s so dark inside
I’m crying out loud
but I’m not heard.

With my friends I
feel open
without them I feel closed.

Open and shut! Open and shut!
How does it feel to be a
black child?

Shooting for shine but getting
shot back
trying to get open but getting
shut
I’m crying to the clothes on my
rack
Losing shoes left to right
feeling left out.

Evolution of the World Josiah M.

Dear Universe, is there more?
I don’t think there are more
universes but I believe that
there are, what if the black
hole swallowed the sun? I
think if the sun got swallowed
the world would freeze. Is it
possible to have life in space?
I think life in space is very
possible, however life in space
won’t be very long because there is
no oxygen in space so they would
have to make the house Sandy lived in.
What if the continents never shifted?
The world would be whole.

Space Dayshaun R.

Space
infinite void
You filling my head with questions
Warming my heart with charm

What is outside your walls?
Are we truly alone?
Do I have a secret?
Maybe a double clone.

Space
other species
out there somewhere
Would I travel out to your walls
is the question always dared.
