without your belief in me?
Mami, who tells me she loves me
everyday
Axel, who says good things that
make me feel amazing
and Valentina, who helps me when I struggle,
when I do not understand.

A day in our class is full of escapes and wonder,
learning and fun
While the sun rises
Our teacher sets up surprises
She comes to school smelling like coffee.
A day in our class is full of skills

like two peas in a pod, or a Fortnite duo
Sometimes we laugh
Other times we do math
We always take the right path
Sometimes we act crazy
And on Monday’s we’re lazy
We talk a lot, like a bunch of chickens
peep peep peep
Water bottles are always falling
and trips to the bathroom are always stalling.

If someone believes in you
you know that you can do it!
they are counting on you
they have faith
If someone believes in you it feels like
a galaxy of encouragement
a football field full of energy
boosting you to the stars
When on one believes in you
you get down on yourself
sucked into an ocean of darkness,
disbelief, doubt, and self-hatred.

We are inspired by pink blossoms on trees in spring
and making things like art, crocheting, happiness
and music
music fills our eyes and ears
with orchestras of violins and saxophones
in a flash of light that lasts 10,000 years
like Quicksilver
sucks us in like quicksand
The sounds of music make our hearts beat
like a million drums summoning our love
strong as tigers
The wind in the trees makes us dance and glow like fireflies
and mermaids under the sea
flowing
like fairy fountains
You can find inspiration in a book,
in a person,
even in the streets of Chicago.
