Spring Is Here

Our pre-Spring break session was a chill one, filled with new poem drafts and an open mic session. Students were excited to share that they’d been working on poems outside of our poetry club, writing about a wide range of topics like love and loss. We were also joined by a new student who came in and immediately began sharing poetry her with us. After having a brief discussion about why we write, students wrote for a bit then shared their work with the group. Check out one of the poems below:

Hot Dirty Winter

Clothing scattered everywhere

Nowhere clean to sit

This is quite a lame winter break

I definitely will admit

I wanna go home

I wish I had a fixed phone

I have surely outgrown

this broken home

No money in my wallet

as empty as it can be

wish I had some money

For an uber to retreat

to peace.
