Poemas de Collage/Collage Poems

For our final writing day together, the 4th grade poets at Volta created collage poems with a word bank to choose from or add (just a few words) to. Each table of students received a small collection of words printed on strips of paper as well as some blank ones and tried to write a poem while confined by this new, limited vocabulary. I had a hard time deciding which poems to share because all 42 are worth reading. Some memorable lines and images include: polar bears in the Arctic, yellow geckos, spending Saturdays with cousins, and a poem in which the speaker tells his grandfather that he’ll always love the ocean. Next week, we’ll have a class reading to share poems out loud and celebrate everyone’s work over the past few months. Here are just a few collage poems from our class:
