I Wish I Were a Marshmallow –– Wish Poems @ Avondale-Logandale

For our very first week together, the 3rd graders and I had a lot to accomplish. We discussed the residency (art class with words), what I expect from them (lots of imagination, playfulness, as well exploration and experimentation). They had lots of good questions for me: (e.g.: What if we’ve never written a poem?). And after all that, we discussed the difference between the poetic line and a story line, and then… we wrote poems! Enjoy!

I wish that my grandma
would feel better because
a bottle dropped on her
head.

She was
trying to get a box
for a santa doll and
a bottle dropped on her
forehead.

She started
bleeding and
I called 911 and
my uncle and aunt and mom
went to the house.
