When I Think Of You I Think Of The Sky

This week we drew little people on the board: blue, purple, and so on. And then I asked, what is purple like as a person? The fourth graders have been putting together many skills lately: personification, imagery, metaphor, simile, and their poems are so rich because of it! I thought I’d give them this prompt, and see what they do with it: write a letter to a color, like its someone you know. Enjoy!

Dear Turquoise
Angie M.

You are blue as the sky
but bought as the ocean
you are soft as the clouds

You are silent as the wind
but friends with blue
as you fly away

You are smart as colorful
as winter when you dance
as a ballerina

Dear Blue
Erick H.

You are clear like the
ocean you look like a beautiful
kingdom of blue you are
the color that makes me
smile

You are the color that
makes me imagine you are
like the sky you are the
color of joy

You are the most beautiful
beam of life you let me live

Red
Jeremiah C.

Dear Red,
You are very sad
But you are the sign
of blood, you save people
Living time is red
Red is a cool color and
Red is my birthstone

Ms. Afzal

Dear Blue
Daisy M.

You are peaceful as the sky
shining bright as the light
crying through the rivers
flowing through the sea
when I think of you I think of the sky
When I see you I think I am on a beach

Dear Red
Lesly S.

Dear Red,

You are like a red flower
You are like a heart red
You are like a color red

You are like a clock red
You are like a short red
You are like a pencil red

You are like a glasses red
You are like a toy red
You are like a notebook red

The Color
Dayanara L.

Dear Blue,

You are blue like the sky
You are blue like my t-shirt
You are blue like half of my room

You are happy as me
When you cry I see you
You are the best color

You are my favorite color
You are blue like my shoes
You are blue like my colors
You are blue like my pants

Ms. Pease
4th Grade

Dear Red
Mariana G.

Dear red, you get angry
when they bother you
Red, you’re dark as your
anger

Red you get happy
when your best
friend is with you
Purple lets you
free out of your
cage

Purple Hi
Abigail T.

Dear Purple
You’re cool and crazy
Playful and careful

You’re bright and smart
Make me relaxed

You make me happy and nice
And make me dance

Dear Red
Jaqueline L.

You are as red as when people get mad
You’re as red as a strawberry

You are such a nice color
They use it when they’re mad
And their face is red

Also when you get in trouble
Or its too cold
