Kevin Young roguishly blends African American vernacular, jazz and traditional poetic language to create and American expression that is both hip and confident in its independence. Young is the Ruth Lilly Professor at Indiana University. He is author of Jelly Roll, A Blues and the editor of Giant Steps: The New Generation of African American Writers.
