Li-Young Lee
Every Circle Wider
Chicago poet Li-Young Lee's spare images cross cultures and generations. Displacement becomes a universalizing context for personal fables of desire, failure, loss and devotion. Lee is the author of four books, including Book of My Nights and The City in Which I Love You. He has taught at various universities, including Columbia College, Northwestern University and the University of Iowa. Lee was born in Jakarta, Indonesia, of Chinese parents. In 1959, his family fled Indonesia as political refugees, and after a five-year trek, settled in the U.S.
