Billy Collins
The Stare
Billy Collins' reading for The Poetry Center in November of 2001 was his first appearance in Chicago as United States Poet Laureate. No poet since Robert Frost has managed to combine high critical acclaim with such broad popular appeal. He is a Guggenheim fellow and a New York Public Library "Literary Lion." Sailing Alone Around the Room, his new collection of poems, was published in September of 2001. The Art of Drowning, Picnic, Lightning and Questions About Angels have broken sales records for poetry.
