Movies play a big part in most people's lives, whether they watch them on TV, DVD, computer screens, or the silver screen. What's interesting is the impression they make, culturally as well as aesthetically, on younger viewers. For something a bit different this past week, and because the Oscars are approaching, we read Noir by A.E. Stallings. Students were asked about who and/or what is in the poem, when and where it takes place? They quite impressively deduced, because it is a black and white movie, that it had to be a long time ago, and as they looked deeper into Stallings' poem figured out that it had to be at least seventy years old.
After discussing it in further detail, they were asked to write their own movie poems. Some suggested themes were favorite films, movie characters, or imagining that they were famous actors or actresses receiving an award.
