The Cheetah in the Jungle
a poem by Adrian C.,
Grade 6
Among the jungle you kill your like every day. You run fast just like thunder striking down.
You have sharp teeth like vampire fangs. Everyone thinks you're deadly and runs away, so that's why they drive on a highway. I think you're cool, but they use you as a tool.

Alexa's Voice
a poem by Alan D.L.T.,
Grade 6
Her voice is like a baby saying hello. It is like the baby angels singing in the morning. When she goes to my room and says good morning, I say five minutes, but it is Saturday so I hug her and say I am hungry. She laughs and I smile. Later we play the wii or watch spongebob, and when she crys I get sad, and I tell her a joke and she is happy. Last she says, I love having a brother like you.

Just feel the nice refreshing
water.
Feel the energy of goose bumps
run down your body.
See this strong breeze of
wind.
Smell the burst of the pink
bubble gum in your face.
Imagine.

How to Be a Good Sister
a poem by Alejandra F.,
Grade 6
Being a good big sister: pay all of the attention to them.
Defend them if they're right. Try and think what they want. Comfort them in any way.
Sing a song when they are sad. Play with them like there is no tomorrow. Try and listen to their thought, with your eyes and ears.
And the most imporant one of all is to love them.

Simplicity of Peanut Butter and Jelly
a poem by Alexis Miller,
Grade 6
Sitting on the dock in Indiana, the dock I have known my whole life. With my three cousins and two sisters, sitting all side by side.
The sound of the waves crashing on the rocky beach shore, the soothing sound of the parents' laughter tickles my ears.
I hear my Nana with the noisy tin foil covering a platter. The familiar crackling makes me smile. All of the children get up and race to her side with opened hands, reaching, shoving and eager.

You Are Alone
a poem by Alexy B.,
2011 Anthology of Student Verse
You are alone in your room. No one can tell you
what to do in there. There are no rules. You
will sleep with your hands touching the soft
pillow and blanket. Your eyes closed, just dreaming.
When you wake up, you can do anything you want,
and when you look out the window, the shine of the sun
is in your eyes. You can see kids laughing and playing.
