Waterfall Park
a poem by Aaron B., 2011 Anthology of Student Verse

A park flowing with different
Objects like a waterfall.
Emotions of joyfulness going
through it. Always twisting and
turning with every minute.

The greenery rapidly going around it.
Joining each and every thing together.
The whole entire thing going through
Each day facing every obsticle when it
is there.

But after the rush everything is calm.

I Am
a poem by Aaron C., 2011 Anthology of Student Verse

I am a ticking clock.
Moving in my blood.

I am a dirty desk.
In my room.

I am a lake.
From water in my body.

I am a book.
With lots of words to say.

Crab Lake, the Rock in the Water
a poem by Aaron L., Grade 5

The heavy rock,
strong but small stands
feet in the water
trees on its back it
sees the Crab,
a lake so wide,
the fish are older than
the cones, needles and berries
on the ground.
Squirrels and rabbits
taking breaths between bites
the water never still
just waiting
waiting
for the end of days.

The ones who speak
the fish the sea the sky
their language is mumbled
as the trees sway
and show their golden glory.
The sky is blue
but rains
a grey mumble
through the earth.

This or That
a poem by Abraham J., 2011 Anthology of Student Verse

I open my eyes

I hear a sizzle

Is it food . . .

or is my house on fire

I open my door

I go to open my dogs cage

Is that my dog . .

or is it a fox

I open the box

I get a bowl

Is it cereal . . .

or is it a joke

I open my mind

I think of my day

Is it real . . .

or am I dreaming

Ode to the Apple
a poem by Acacia T., 2011 Anthology of Student Verse

The sacred tree of
hope, the magnificent
red Nile river, the
blood that shed
on the battle floor
years back, like the
apple-red lipstick ladies,
women,
girls wear these days,
the Chicago fire,
the July gemstone,
on the USA flag,
your first-grade teacher's
hair, the homeless
watching you in the
window at Pete's Market
just waiting to bite into
you, juicy apple. And when
they're through eating
you, they all say an
"Ode to the Apple."

Acrobat
a poem by Adanna B., Grade 5

Don't fall on the string
Be careful, catch yourself
Don't let go
Be straight, and tight
if you fall don't worry
enjoy the time you have
Don't hurt the elephant
let the clown be
Study your moves
Smile to the crowd
balance yourself
Never look down

My Dream
a poem by Adelaida P., Grade 5

I dream that I can fly
In my dream I talk to animals
I have big paws and run fast
I am the tiger of the night
In my dream when I am a tiger I fly
High to the sky
I float on the river high so light
I have big wings

The Wind
a poem by Adeline S., Grade 5

I listen to the wind but at times
the wind comes to me like a
racing car. And the wind is so
cold that I think I'm going to
freeze in the middle of the street
and when the wind comes to
me I feel like the wind is blowing
me away from my own home.

Lots of Names
a poem by Adonis T., 2011 Anthology of Student Verse

Your voice sounds like an angel
singing in the bathroom, like
swishing through the water, like
a snow angel singing, like Michael
Jackson, like an angry mob
chasing after a school kid.
Her voice is like
a lion roaring, her voice
is like Sleeping Beauty. My
voice is like a dragon
breathing its fire. My voice
is also the quiet sound
of the earth rotating. My sister's
voice is like a dragon skydiving. My
voice is like 18 million sharks and bees
screaming. My cousin's voice is like

Elephant
a poem by Adrian M., Grade 5

If I was an elephant I will
see the whole world and see what
is going on above me and see what's
going on around me. I will play
around in the water with other
elephants. I will play fight with
other elephants. I will walk
around the world with other elephants
and eat plants and drink water.
