Hair
a poem by Owen W., Grade 8
My dad's hair is straight like a pencil. The sun
shines off like a mirror. It is a deep brown
like the color of a horse. His hair stays flat on his
head. It's simple, no gel or special shampoo.

In Your Dream

the driver turns to you
and you are climbing Mount

by a

Untitled
a poem by Piotr L., Grade 8
It is early.
It is nice.
Sunlight breaks through
the leaves
like a window
in a wall.

It is noon.
It is hot,
or cold.
The places
where you step
can tell you that.

It is later
in the day.
It is cold.
The colors are different,
from yellow and blue
to purple and red.

Time can tell you that.

Where I Am
a poem by Rickie C., Grade 8
I am from yesterday,
from the past and the clock.
I am from last year's days,
from shut up and be quiet.
I am from the slanted aisles
of the neigbhorhood doors
From a time when there
were no souls.

I am from vacant lobbies
and yesterday's news
where no one survives
just sit in your blues.

Take a deep breath
then exhale your sorrow
don't worry, we'll be here tomorrow...

How to Write a Poem
a poem by Roberto M., Grade 8
A spark awakened,
burning just to see;
as an inmate awaits freedom.

Black strikes white.
There is a curve,
no more straits alone

with no friends.
Together they unite
with rhythms.

Soon the magic ends,
yet we know,
we know there will be more.

Oz and Dale
a poem by Robin H., Grade 8
7800 that's my home!
my one and only!
You're always there for me
Those reassuring green arms
outstretched for a comforting hug

POP
Vroom
Rat-a-tat-tat
How do you sleep through it?
All of the bugs crawling above your skin

Veteran to plastic surgery
you are still "imperfect"
as you wanna call it
Over and over again
you get re-done

A gathering place for people everywhere
No one thinks of you fondly,
they just walk right over you.
Always awaiting our arrival
standing there, Oz and Dale

Cellphone
a poem by Sarah Z., Grade 8
I wish I got to know
you better.

never got to say goodbye.
You stopped showing me
all the t hings that are
important.

Oh how I miss you.

No one can ever change
the way I feel about
You.

The one thing I never knew.
Barely got the chance to
communicate.

Sadness overwhelms me
because for you
everything
went
Dark.

I Am From
a poem by Sergio Z., Grade 8
I am from a place of freedom.
I am from a place of success.
I am from a place where I can
be who I want to be.

I am from a family with
a rich heritage that
is proud of who they
are.
I am from a house that
belongs to a family.

I am from a place like no
other.
